Every Bobbies ballet flat on our website is custom-made in our traditional Santa Maria da Feira workshop. Our shoemakers handpick the perfect leather for every shoe. They pay careful attention to every tiny detail and make sure your shoe is supple enough for all-day comfort. We believe that fashion should be sustainable and eco-friendly, so our exceptional patternmaker creates a technical drawing by hand before 3D printing the results. This way, he can determine the right leather for each design while optimizing scraps.

Once the shoe has been transformed into the ideal shape, our leather expert hand-cuts and dyes the leather. Our stitching and painting professional takes care of the folding, hammering, and reinforcement. Once she’s painted every raw edge, our master assembler gets to work. Hand production demands exceptional attention to detail. Our shoe doctor will make sure the finishings are up to scratch before boxing the final product.

The Bobbies Leather Difference

You can’t make a beautiful, durable shoe without the right leathers. We source ours from certified tanneries in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France. Our Leather Working Group certification assures you of an energy-efficient, eco-friendly leatherworking process. We choose only the sturdiest, most vibrant skins. Then we use vegetable tannins to add depth and colour to them. Our process leaves room for the organic colour variations so typical of Bobbies shoes. 

Our soles go through a slightly different production process. We cut their leather with metal dyes before sanding them down to retain moisture resistance. We often use rubber instead, but like all our materials, we choose sustainable options. Our soles are crafted from 70% recycled rubber and 30% natural hevea rubber. We’ve partnered with Bolflex to ensure that our shoes are manufactured from recycled vegan materials.
